Google Home Developer Newsletter October 2025

Today, we introduced a suite of new AI-powered capabilities, an improved Google Home app, and new hardware that form the foundation of our Gemini for Home vision.

Gemini on your devices - test your integrations now

If your device is connected to Google Home through our Cloud-to-Cloud APIs or Matter, your eligible users will be able to use natural conversational language to control devices, create automations, and search event history.

However, a Gemini-powered home is only as good as the quality of its device integrations. As we begin rolling out Gemini for Home to users this month, it is critical that you begin robustly testing your existing Works with Google Home integrations immediately. A seamless user experience is our shared top priority, and your testing is essential to ensuring your devices perform reliably with these new conversational capabilities.

Next generation of AI cameras

We are also making it easier to build Gemini-ready cameras with a new camera program as part of the platform for Google Home, starting with select partners. This includes a new hardware reference design and our new Google Home camera embedded SDK that allows partners to seamlessly integrate their cameras with Gemini for Home camera features and the entire Google Home ecosystem.

We're thrilled to announce the winner of our first Google Home APIs Developer Challenge !

Congratulations to Aniket Chandekar for his outstanding project "Pulse".

Pulse is a personalized smart home assistant that creatively integrates the Home APIs with Gemini to enable mood-based smart home automations. We were incredibly impressed by this forward-thinking approach to creating a truly responsive smart home.

We heard you enjoyed:

  • the learning opportunity to be creative
  • feeling inspired to create with smart home

And would have liked:

  • more time to complete the challenge
  • mentorship and support from Google

We read through every single piece of feedback and appreciate you helping us improve for the next challenge. Stay tuned!

We're excited to announce the first wave of AI-powered features is now available on the Developer Center.

Highlights:

  • A chat interface alongside our developer documentation to ask questions about the content of a page.
  • AI Search Summaries summarizes information and offers richer, more insightful answers directly on the search results page.

Both features are gradually rolling out to users who have a Google Developer Profile.
